Why this “Under the Hood” blog?
One of the neatest parts of last month’s Omniture Summit was the product roadmap session with our CTO, Brett Error. This session allowed our customers to interact directly with Brett by suggesting features that they would like to see in future versions of SiteCatalyst and other Omniture products. I was surprised, however, when one customer stood and made a suggestion regarding future Summit conferences: He asked for more breakout sessions for IT professionals and developers in addition to the feast of marketing content that Summit provides.
My blog is aimed directly at this customer and others like him who have been charged with achieving a successful implementation that is capable of providing answers to all of their organization’s key business questions. As new key business questions arise, my hope is that content on this blog will at least help show how certain questions could be answered using various implementation methods.
As I am doing this, I will try to show not only how to capture the data, but how to use it; at the same time, I freely admit that my expertise is on the implementation side of the fence rather than the business and marketing side. For that reason, Adam Greco and I are working together to “mirror” each others’ posts where applicable, so that Adam can teach the marketing folks how to get the greatest value out of Omniture products and development folks can learn from this blog how they might enable that value through a successful implementation.
This is what I mean by the title of my blog: “Omniture Suite: Under the Hood.” Your Omniture implementation is the engine of the Ferrari; the reporting capability is the cockpit. I’ll do my best to take you under the hood and show you how to tune the engine to maximize what the Omniture Suite can do.
As you read this blog, and as you implement SiteCatalyst and other Omniture tools on your site(s), please let me know what questions arise, and I’ll do my best to address them in a future post. Feel free to contact me with these ideas by e-mail (omniturecare at omniture dot com) or on Twitter (@OmnitureCare). I look forward to hearing from you and discussing the “under the hood” aspects of the Omniture Suite on this blog.

Let’s do this. I look forward to your posts!
I was there and simply in awe of Mr. Error’s (a surname misnomer if ever there was one) command of Omniture’s technology and obvious understanding of all the issues audience members were throwing at him. It was a very inspiring and humbling display.
Thanks for being willing to grapple with the nitty gritty issues we Omniture admins have to deal with. Hey, where’d my calculated metric disappear to?!? [;-)]
Thanks, Ben and Nate! I hope this stuff proves useful to both of you.
I highly enjoyed reading this post, keep on creating such exciting articles!!
