An Early Adopter’s Perspective on the Omniture APIs - Q&A with Gary Angel, President of Semphonic
Gary Angel, President and CTO of Semphonic, a Web analytics consultancy, recently hosted an Omniture Developer Connection User Group in San Francisco. Gary co-founded Semphonic and leads their consulting efforts for companies like American Express, Charles Schwab, Intuit, Genentech, Nokia, Sears and Turner Broadcasting. As an early-adopter of the Omniture APIs, Semphonic has been building integrated solutions that combine Web analytics with enterprise data to help customers realize new marketing innovation and efficiency through the Omniture platform. After the San Francisco User Group, Gary and I connected to talk more about Semphonic’s use of the Omniture APIs:

Trimming the fat with dynamic variables
Raise your hand if you’re capturing some of the same data in your Custom Traffic variables that you are capturing in your Custom Conversion variables. I can’t say for sure, but I’m willing to bet that there’s greater than a 50% chance that you, Mr.-or-Ms. Blog Post Reader, raised your hand.

Migration Musings on Mobile
I had the opportunity to attend the AdobeMAX event in Los Angeles eariler this month. I sat there soaking in the eye candy that Adobe’s products can create thinking, “yeah, but how would that look on my Blackberry?” Then, as if Adobe CTO Kevin Lynch read my mind, he showed Flash 10.1 running on a … Read more »

More and more publishers, lead gen sites, or for that matter any business striving to provide relevant and helpful content to its visitors, are turning to automated recommendations. Sites looking to achieve more “stickiness”, increase page views (and therefore ad revenue) or generate subscription conversions find that by showing visitors or readers the most popular, … Read more »

OmnitureCare mailbag
I like blog posts that have solid themes, but sometimes there are questions I’d like to answer that may not be long enough to constitute their own post. In such cases, I’ll use a “potpourri” format similar to the popular Bill Simmons mailbag recurring feature on ESPN.com to hit a bunch of disparate topics in … Read more »
Move Beyond Gut Feel: Testing with Media Engagement Metrics
In my position I have the chance to observe and also assist media companies as they mature towards data driven organizations. It’s an exhilarating time as our industry starts to move past the era of gut feel to a more robust improvement process. For example, some media companies are discovering that the ever … Read more »
Tasty Morsels o’ SiteCatalyst Data
As a gastronome (or “gastrognome” since I’m less than 5′ 8″ tall), I love anything related to food. That’s why I was excited to speak with the folks at the French Culinary Institute (FCI) to hear what’s new since they migrated from HBX to the SiteCatalyst platform. I chatted with Raina Bien, Associate Director of … Read more »
